FCC to Regulate Internet Service Providers–Should They Be Allowed to?

6/19/2010 – The Federal Communication Commission (FCC) wants to regulate companies that provide Internet connectivity to the general public. There’s been a good deal of debate on this and I’ve been thinking about the issue a good bit as of late.

Traditionally, the FCC has been the source of regulation for all things wireless, holding auctions on large portions of the radio frequency (RF) spectrum and allocating frequencies to the highest bidder. Now, they want to extend their authority to hard line and other forms of wireless connectivity as it pertains to the Internet. Should they be allowed to do that?

There’s a discussion thread now in place on our Facebook page. Feel free to voice your opinion here on GKO or on Facebook. (click here)

FCC Split as It Launches Internet Regulation Effort
“It’s not hard to understand why companies subject to an agency’s oversight would prefer no oversight at all if they had the chance,” FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski said Thursday, adding the agency hadn’t yet reached a decision on what to do.

“We need to reclaim our authority,” said Democratic FCC Commissioner Michael Copps. “I, for one, am worried about relying only on the good will of a few powerful companies to achieve this country’s broadband hopes and dreams.”

“The FCC must have the authority to set broadband policy,” said Joel Kelsey, policy analyst for Consumers Union, the publisher of Consumer Reports magazine.

Poppycock: My Grandkids Will Have to Pay Off This Debt

10 June 2010 — I continue to hear bad news regarding the economy, banking, the Stock Exchange, jobs, business, and more. Everywhere you go you hear people talking about buying gold to secure their future.

U.S debt to rise to $19.6 trillion by 2015 | Reuters

June 8, 2010 — The U.S. debt will top $13.6 trillion this year and climb to an estimated $19.6 trillion by 2015, according to a Treasury Department report to Congress.

The report that was sent to lawmakers Friday night with no fanfare said the ratio of debt to the gross domestic product would rise to 102 percent by 2015 from 93 percent this year.

“The president’s economic experts say a 1 percent increase in GDP can create almost 1 million jobs, and that 1 percent is what experts think we are losing because of the debt’s massive drag on our economy,” said Republican Representative Dave Camp, who publicized the report.

(Reporting by Donna Smith; Editing by Kenneth Barry)

So let me ask you this one question…. since the banking system as we know it was quietly ushered in, in 1913, which generation since then is it that actually paid off this debt to the Int’l Bankers?

As they say, follow the money.

The national debt is largely money owed to the central bank by way of interest on the money we use. Let me answer my question… there hasn’t been a single generation that actually paid that debt down, let alone pay it off. How do you expect any generation in the future to do any better?

The fact is, the current banking system was never meant to do anything other than what it’s doing now… bankrupt everyone but those who assume ownership of all the money in circulation. I ask you, can this end in any other way but what you now see before you?

Let me answer that for you… NO! It’s got to end bad, and it shall.

If I did not know better, the Elite banking families that instituted this debtor’s system may have had a target deadline of 100 years, which means they expect to collect in full by 2013.

Better hope I’m wrong.

Guns in the Home Found to Deter Homicides

Al Colombo's GKO Technology Blog

5 June 2010 –For many years now, the anti-gun lobby has worked furiously to take your gun rights away. Historically speaking, this is not the first time that we’ve seen this kind of effort among both the well intentioned and politically dishonest for even in Thomas Jefferson’s day gun control had become an issue–and this was at a time when firearms was the norm and not the exception in our society.

1 March 2010: Gun Control Today and in Jefferson’s Day

“Laws that forbid the carrying of arms…disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes…Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.”

Thomas Jefferson, Source: www.great-quotes.com

REPORT CONFIRMS MORE GUNS = LESS CRIME; NO PUBLIC SAFETY THREAT, SAYS SAF
For Immediate Release: 3/24/2010

BELLEVUE, WA – A report published by MSNBC.com confirms “everything gun rights groups have been saying for years, that more armed citizens does not equate to increased violence, and actually coincides with a reduction in homicides,” the Second Amendment Foundation said today.

The on-line news agency this morning released an investigative report that record numbers of American citizens are now legally carrying firearms for personal protection. Yet, the report also reveals that homicide rates have declined dramatically during a period when gun sales have skyrocketed. Further, the report noted that Washington, DC with its extreme gun control has the highest murder rate in the nation, while Utah, with very liberal gun laws, has the lowest rate.

“This is further evidence that everything the gun prohibitionists have been claiming and predicting over the past two decades has been fundamentally fraudulent,” said SAF Executive Vice President Alan M. Gottlieb. “They have repeatedly argued that more guns will equate to more crime and more firearms deaths, and MSNBC.com just let the air out of their sails with this exhaustive and well-balanced report.”

Gottlieb said the public “has gradually, but steadily come to the realization that the gun ban lobby has built its campaign of citizen disarmament on a mountain of falsehoods, one heaped on top of another.”

“This is why,” he said, “anti-gun groups have lost their momentum and their credibility. They failed to gain traction even with a Democrat-controlled Congress and an anti-gun White House. They are so desperate for attention that they have now declared war on private businesses just to generate publicity. Their high-profile campaign of hysteria against Starbucks for complying with state laws that allow concealed and open carry in their coffee shops is based on an issue they fabricated just to grab headlines and television face time, and the public knows it.

“Every restrictive gun law, every ban, every gun-free-zone they have advocated and defended have one thing in common,” Gottlieb concluded. “They gave us a body count. The MSNBC.com report suggests America has had enough.”

The Second Amendment Foundation (www.saf.org) is the nations oldest and largest tax-exempt education, research, publishing and legal action group focusing on the Constitutional right and heritage to privately own and possess firearms. Founded in 1974, The Foundation has grown to more than 650,000 members and supporters and conducts many programs designed to better inform the public about the consequences of gun control. SAF has previously funded successful firearms-related suits against the cities of Los Angeles; New Haven, CT; and San Francisco on behalf of American gun owners, a lawsuit against the cities suing gun makers and an amicus brief and fund for the Emerson case holding the Second Amendment as an individual right.

TIMOTHY FITZGERALD

A time of turmoil: Timothy Fitzgerald faced, seemingly all at once, his climbing unchallenged walls in Yosemite Valley as a mountaineer; JFK standing down Russia in the world’s most terrifying power play; deaths of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and Bobbie Kennedy; the rise of the Democratic Party Convention; conflict in South East Asia and the Vietnam War; the Cold War and the nuclear threat; and racial tensions at home. Added to all this was the powerful activities of San Jose State University students, like Fitzgerald, who searched for peace and answers.

San Jose was dominated by machine politics, bigotry and segregated off-campus housing. Mr. Fitzgerald’s book on the San Jose State campus revolt is a remembrance of that time, giving an account of the civil rights movement in the Bay Area, “when SJSU’s student body crossed the color line to elect the first black student to lead any campus in State College history,” offers Fitzgerald.

Thus began a 40 year quest for understanding that first took Fitzgerald to Joan Baez’s Institute for the Study of Non-Violence, before he embarked on his own venture to find the source of the democratic dream, the rationale of the Founding Fathers of America, and the pursuit of one’s Enlightenment.

Author Tim Fitzgerald was one of the students drawn into the campus riots. Uniting others for the cause of racial equality and hope became a rallying point for young people. Thus, Fitzgerald’s work takes us back to the past of civil unrest while bringing us to an uneasy present, while also portending of a foreseeable calamitous future. He is an accomplished writer who has also taught social science in community colleges. Too, he is a graduate from San Jose State University with two bachelor’s degrees (in U.S. history and economics). He is now completing a third master’s degree in related subjects while working on his sequel to his book, Wawona Brotherhood the San Jose State Campus Revol –which will be titled, “A Diamond in the Rough.” Through all of this, he has battled bipolarity and emerges as a model warrior for everyone who faces his or her own demons.

JOHN DiNARDO

Mr. DiNardo earned his degree in science education, from Kean University, with electives in physics and biology, and he taught high school physics before returning to an electronics career during his 4-1/2 years in the Marine Corps; he graduated from the Naval Air Technical Training Center in Memphis,
Tennessee
, as “scholastic honor man” in the aviation electronics
technicians school. He also completed evening college courses in electrical engineering, and in advanced mathematics (differential equations) at
Farleigh Dickinson University. Additionally, he performed troubleshooting, fault analysis, and design of electronic circuitry, working for numerous corporations, including Bendix Avionics and Dynalco in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and with McGraw-Edison Corp. and Industrial Timer Corp., both in New Jersey
.

This, along with additional studies and his work for electronics companies, gained him diverse experience in the principles and analysis of electronic circuitry, and advanced design analog and digital electronic circuits. He worked twenty years with Bell Telephone Laboratories, and additional two years with Mobile-Vision Inc. (police car video systems).

He read Mark Hazelwood’s book, Blindsided; since then, he’s studied the evidence warning of the approach of that massive celestial body, named Planet X by the astronomical community. He offers, “In 2002, I researched ancient historical and modern scientific evidence about comet orbital intrusions into our solar system which provoke electrostatic, magnetic, and gravitational changes occurring about every 3,600 years.” He believes these recurring celestial assaults explain ongoing major global catastrophes happening throughout the ages, including:

- The Great Flood of Noah’s day

- The ten catastrophic plagues upon Egypt, described in the Book of Exodus

- The coming Earth catastrophes prophesied in the Book of Revelation.

He says, “I knew Hazelwood’s Blindsided was true, but mine was a spiritual realization–a kind of intuitive inspiration. I feel that my understanding and the compulsion to alert people was God influencing me to carry out the following principle of His scriptures: ‘Fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom,’ Proverbs 9:10.  For me, God has made this proverb imperative for all of humankind in our Last Days…with emphasis on inspiring people of our day to ‘Be a Noah. Be a Jonah.’”

Congress wants to eliminate regular phone service, replacing it with IP (this is a bad thing)

Sunday, April 25th, 2010

Al Colombo's GKO Technology Blog

4/25/10 – For those who know me well as a trade journalist, usually I make every effort to separate my writing on GKO from that of the magazines I write for. The only time I politicize my technical content (which is usually on my own websites) is when lawmakers are hard at work to derail some aspect of what we do as professionals in the security and life safety markets.

Today I’m going to politicize the issue of Congress’, by way of the FCC (Federal Communications Commission), efforts to push everyone–both businesses and residents–off of common ordinary phone lines (called Plain Old Telephone Service, or POTS) and on to an IP-switched national infrastructure.

What I’m going to write today will be short, allowing what I have already written yesterday and many days and weeks before that to tell most of the tale. You will find a complete accounting of this issue, as complete as is possible to date, on Al Colombo’s Safety & Security Blog.

Go to: POTS, the FCC, and AT&T.

What I will say here that I did not say there is this: the fact that the Congress wants everyone on IP is significant. It says that there’s a technological reason for their madness, not just the stated intent, which is to see that everyone has access to affordable broadband Internet.

When you look at the overwhelming Leftish slant to almost everything this specific Congress is doing, you must know instinctively that this effort to rid society of one of the most solid communication systems on record must also have a Leftish slant.

The hard fact of the matter is this, the likelihood of greater mass track-ability among the populous via a hard-drive-stored audit trail is far more easily done using digital IP than it is analog circuit-switched technology. Read my work as well as the documents presented in my Safety & Security Blog post so you can gain a better understanding of what’s at stake here.

Of course, the security and life safety industry is on this like bees on honey. The general public, however, is largely unaware of what is transpiring in the hollow halls of the capital building. But frankly, I am willing to wager that the folks who really control the big man in the big house are calling the shots here.

Census Bureau Violates the Defense of Marriage Act; Urges Reporting of False Data

Al Colombo's GKO Technology Blog

How much more will the American people take until they throw the bums out of power? Can we actually afford to wait? Impeachment would be a good beginning.

Here’s a good example of the kind of thing that Communists do as they seek to assume total control of a nation. They bring minorities together as a majority, giving something to everyone, bribing all if it were possible. Read the story of the Chinese takeover of Tibet and you will see similar tactics in use throughout.

Census Bureau Violates the Defense of Marriage Act; Urges Reporting of False Data

WASHINGTON, D.C. (April 6, 2010) - Ignoring federal and state laws defining marriage as the union of a man and a woman, the U.S. Census Bureau released videos on Monday encouraging homosexual couples who consider themselves “married” to list themselves as such on this year’s census forms. The videos also urge cross-dressers to identify themselves with whatever sex they prefer.

*Family Research Council President Tony Perkins* responded with the following comments:

“The law should count for something when the Census Bureau counts America’s population, but apparently it doesn’t on President Obama’s watch. The President’s Commerce Department is actively encouraging people to ignore U.S. marriage law and invent new definitions for their relationships. What
kind of government actively lobbies citizens to lie on their forms?

“When it comes to advancing the extreme homosexual agenda, this White House has no limits, not even the facts. The Defense of Marriage Act forbids the federal government from recognizing same-sex relationships as ‘marriages.’ If this video were honest, it would state, ‘If you are a same-sex couple, you should mark the box that says ‘unmarried partner,’ even if you are legally married according to the laws of the state in which you reside.’

“Homosexuals should fill out the census form and be counted, the same as any other Americans. But only Congress - not homosexual activists, not the Census Bureau, and not President Obama and his appointees acting unilaterally - can change federal law.”

Various states talk of suing the Federal Gov’t with regards to unconstitutional mandates contained within the Obama(non)Care legislation, but with a largely leftist judicial element, how can we be sure that legal recourse will actually work?

For those who believe guns are the answer at this juncture, there are still legal ways to deal with this. One of the most compelling to Congressmen is an upcoming election. Another way to deal with this is to communicate your disdain for what the federal gov’t is doing to your Congressmen.

The thugs among gov’t have a keen eye on your firearms. Those of you who do not own a gun, you should recognize the benefit of others’ right to do this. Be sure to tell your Congressmen to support the Second Amendment as it was written. Remind them that firearms is crucial to the preservation of any free nation, and Lord knows there are not many left. American values and culture are under attack and you need to support it by voicing these ideas to your Congressmen.

Here’s how to contact your Congressmen:

>> U.S. Senate

Democrats Begin to Defect From US Democratic Party

Sunday, April 4th, 2010

| home | welcome | recent work | navigation | mission | about |
| Blog Entry Archive |

Al Colombo's GKO Technology Blog

April 4, 2010 – For a long, long time, the Democrat Party has touted itself as representing the “common man.” There was a day for sure when this was the case, but over the last half century, I’ve seen our beloved party go from a “champion among men” to an extremely radical, manipulative, left-leaning political force, one that almost seems under the control of Moscow or Beijing. I suspect that the truth here is that it’s under the control of the International bankers for it was Wall Street that funded the revolutions that brought Communism to Russia by 1917. It was Wall Street that, in the late 1800s, gave Trotsky and Lenin $21 Million.

It was in the early 60s or late 50s when I built my first shortwave radio that I began listening to Radio Moscow and Radio Havana Cuba, plus radio stations in other socialist nations. At first I was fearful of the communist rhetoric, but in due time I became accustom to it. The message quietly, subtly sank into the depths of my young mind to the point where I adopted its ideology.

It was in 1992, while living in Chicago–working for a magazine as a trade journalist–that I heard Comrade Clinton talk about eliminating the U.S. Constitution. If he and Gore were elected, he would get rid of this terrible document. He said, “It was a radical experiment that outlived its time.”

This caused me to later read the Constitution, cover to cover, including the Declaration of Independence. When I did this, I decided that this Constitution of ours is actually very good, as it has protected us for more than 200 years. The mere fact that presidential hopeful Clinton was willing to go on record opposing it was alarming and telling. It was the event that changed the political direction of my life, forever.

In a word, because of Comrade Clinton’s public admission, I switched sides from socialism/communism to that of capitalism. I will never switch back, either. Simply put, there can be no Utopia on Earth, so forget all the promises. Stop visualizing the perfect world that our Comrades want to create on the backs of the people.

The following article examines the reason why today’s Democrats are moving away from the party. If it’s any consolation, I applaud you for doing so. Those contemplating the move, I encourage you to do the same. In a word, “This is not our grandparent’s traditional Democratic Party.” Instead it looks like the European Social Democratic Party, which is a highly socialistic, left-leaning political force in Europe.

Disgruntled Democrats join the Tea Party
Grand Junction, Colorado (CNN) — They are not typical Tea Party activists: A woman who voted for President Obama and believes he’s a “phenomenal speaker.” Another who said she was a “knee-jerk, bleeding heart liberal.”

These two women are not alone. Some Americans who say they have been sympathetic to Democratic causes in the past — some even voted for Democratic candidates — are angry with President Obama and his party. They say they are now supporting the Tea Party — a movement that champions less government, lower taxes and the defeat of Democrats even though it’s not formally aligned with the Republican Party.

REGULATION: Removing Price Control From Wall Street Speculators

Friday, April 2nd, 2010

| home | welcome | recent work | navigation | mission | about |
| Blog Entry Archive |

Al Colombo's GKO Technology Blog

When you link a commodity or service to the markets (AKA: Wall Street), you open things up to unethical behavior on the part of unscrupulous, unfeeling people who rationalize what they do by the all-too-common phrase, “It’s just business.” Somehow this doesn’t seem to work well for me, so I don’t get involved in this kind of thing, but there are many who do.

According to Kevin G. Hall with McClatchy Newspapers, Wall Street speculators are largely responsible for the price of a barrel of oil going up. In other words, by manipulating the system they’re able to force us to pay more.

Is there a better way? Is there a more fair way to base the price of a barrel of oil?

Of course: “What it cost to produce it!” When real costs go up, so will the price. When real costs go down, so will the price. To make this happen would require… REGULATION, which would take “price control” away from those who have found a way to cash in on such markets.

What’s driving up oil prices again? Wall Street, of course
WASHINGTON — Oil consumption has fallen, demand from U.S. motorists for gasoline is flat at best and refiners that turn crude into fuel are operating well below capacity. Yet oil prices keep marching toward $90 a barrel, pushing gasoline toward $3 a gallon in many markets, and prompting American drivers to ask, “What gives?”

Blame it on the same folks who brought you $140 oil and $4 gasoline in 2008: Wall Street speculators.

Experts attribute much of the recent rise in prices to flows of speculative money into oil markets. These bets are fueled by investor expectations that the U.S. and global economies are poised to return to growth and thus spark increased use of oil. Strong growth in China supports the narrative of rising oil consumption and tightening supplies.

Al’s Views: The Bill of Rights (those who rule should run)

Monday, March 15th, 2010

| home | welcome | recent work | navigation | mission | about |
| Blog Entry Archive |

Al Colombo's GKO Tech Blog

March 15, 2010 — It would behoove those who have never really sat down and read our Bill of Rights to do so. The Bill of Rights is actually the first ten amendments to the U.S. Constitution, which is the guiding principles upon which this nation is founded.

If you notice, I said is founded rather than was founded. This is because any Constitution is intended to be the fundamental guide by which all laws and actions are performed by the legislators that run the country. The Bill of Rights is part of the underpinnings of this nation and should be adhered to no matter whether it’s been 225 years or 400 years.

If you noticed, I did not use the word RULE in the paragraph above, but rather RUN. This is because far too many legislators in the United States have the idea that they actually RULE as in a dictatorship. Oh, they may rule for a time, but the people of this nation, once they figure out what the deal is will put a stop to that Congressman’s ruler-ship.

We The People
REMEMBER, the masses are only ruled by consent, and this is why it’s taken this long for the hard left that’s now in office to get even this far. They’ve bent the rules and trashed the Constitution at every turn.

What they’ve also done is to suggest that our Constitution and Bill of Rights are “living documents” that can be changed at the drop of a hat. This is not what our founding fathers intended–it’s not true, never was, and never will be. Don’t believe them, they speak with forked tongue.

My advice is, if you’re a Congressman and you want to rule a nation, go to Russia or the United Kingdom, but please stay out of Washington. We have enough of you for one country to deal with.

Limiting Federal Powers, a Necessity Then as Now
And finally, the intent of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights is to limit federal powers against the states. It defines these limitations by also defining state and citizen rights.

A good example of this is Amendment 2 where it says: A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed. It’s simple, plain to the point, and very easy to understand. More than that, the early settlers and pioneers had to have weapons to survive. Even as a child I can remember that the accepted intent of this amendment is to guarantee our right to own and bear arms.

The very idea that citizens are not entitled to bear arms is false. Not only is it false, but those in position of leadership who would have you believe otherwise should be looked upon with suspicion. What other motives can any legislator have in this regard but that of tyranny and hardship for their citizens?

Why would any legislator seek to eliminate the 2nd Amendment other than they have something in mind that they know the people of this nation will not appreciate? Their effort to disarm us is merely an effort to assure their own safety when that time comes. Wake up, read the Bill of Rights, and then tell your Congressmen in both parties to follow our Constitution and Bill of Rights.
