Background:
Your host, Al Colombo, is a trade journalist in the security and life safety markets. Colombo has penned hundreds, perhaps a thousand technical and marketing related stories over the span of 22 years, 14 years of which were spent working as a full time editor on staff with Security Distributing & Marketing (SDM) and Security Sales & Integration (SSI) magazines. The remainder of this 22 years Colombo worked as a freelance writer.

“I have had the privilege of meeting hundreds of talented, knowledgeable shakers and movers in the security and life safety industries,” says Al Colombo. “I’ve traveled from one corner of the United States to the other, meeting with and/or interviewing engineers, project managers, product managers, marketing experts, CEOs, operation managers and others.”

Colombo wrote freelance copy for SDM from 1987 through 1989. He then joined the staff of SDM as Associate Editor in 1990, resigning his position in the fall of 2000. He wrote freelance for the magazine for an additional year, eventually joining SSI in May of 2001. His freelance work with SSI ended in the fall of 2004 when he joined the magazine as a full time editor, holding the position of Technology Editor from October 2004 to November 2006.

Currently:
Al Colombo continues to write for SSI where you will find his Fire Side Chat column as well as feature stories. Other magazines of note that Al Colombo has worked for include Security Dealer & Integration, Alarm Installing Dealer, National Locksmith, Locksmith Ledger, Electrical Contractor (EC), The Electrical Distributor (TED), and Security & Life Safety (S&LSS) magazines.
